A calf in southwest China’s Yunnan Province has become something of a
local celebrity in her farmer’s village, after she was born with only
two hind legs on the morning of April 14. Currently, the 25 kilogram
calf cannot stand up on her own, which means her mother cannot feed her,
leaving her to be hand-reared by her owner. Livestock experts have said
there could be several reasons for this unfortunate birth defect. The
problem may be genetic, or even have links to medicine or the food given
to the farmer’s herd of cattle.
